Mike McCarthy has been providing legal counsel to sophisticated clients for nearly 30 years.  After graduating from Georgetown Law School in 1990, Mike spent the first 6 years of his legal career at Saul Ewing, a prominent Philadelphia law firm.  

In 1996, Mike accepted an offer to work inhouse as a senior corporate counsel for Systems & Computer Technology Corporation ("SCT"), a publicly-traded software and services provider to multiple markets.  At SCT, Mike provided counsel on the entire spectrum of legal issues faced by a sophisticated public technology company, but focused on the negotiation of software and related technology agreements with a multitude of clients, software vendors, partners and other entities.  During his 8-year career with SCT, Mike received two promotions, the second of which was to the role of Corporate Vice President.  

In early 2004, SCT was acquired by SunGard Data Systems Inc., a Fortune 500 provider of software and technology solutions to the Financial, Higher Education, and Public Sector marketplaces.  At the time of the acquisition, Mike was promoted into the role of Chief Counsel for the Higher Education and Public Sector divisions of SunGard.  Mike held this position while SunGard was a publicly-traded company and for nearly 3 years after it was acquired by a consortium of the world's most prominent private equity firms in one of the largest leveraged buyouts in U.S. history. In February 2007, Mike was promoted to corporate Vice President-Legal of SunGard Data Systems. During his tenure with SunGard, Mike managed a 5-person legal team dedicated to providing counsel to SunGard's Higher Education and Public Sector businesses, which together produced annual revenues approximating $1 Billion.  Like at SCT, Mike and his team's responsibilities included negotiating software, SaaS and other technology transactions with some of the most prominent educational institutions and public entities in the world.   

In the Spring of 2008, Mike left the inhouse corporate world to open the McCarthy Law Firm in order to pursue a long-standing desire to utilize his wealth of legal experience to provide sophisticated and practical legal counsel to a wider spectrum of clients.  In 2018, the Firm celebrated its 10th anniversary and, thanks to its clients, is still going strong.   

Mike was born and raised in the Philadelphia area.  He attended Cardinal O'Hara High School in Springfield, Pennsylvania, and then went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Villanova University.  Thereafter, Mike received his law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center.  He lives in Newtown Square with his wife of 29 years and his three children.      

Mike is an attorney in good standing and has been admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
